Fast Forward - Rainbow Conference Student Award
Throughout the conference, we will showcase the top-selected shorts from the Fast Forward event on a dedicated TV screen. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite films during the conference.
At the end of the conference, we will host a special screening of the top three shorts and announce the winner of the Rainbow Conference Student Film Award. Don’t miss this chance to see the best student work and be part of selecting the standout film of the event!

From Comic Strip Icon to Feature Animation Hero: DNEG Animation presents “The Garfield Movie”
From character design to groom and performance challenges, hear from the DNEG Animation team who helped bring Jim Davis' beloved comic strip icon to life on the big screen. Join Producer Shelley Smith, Groom Supervisor Kristin Farrensteiner and VFX Supervisor Freddy Chaleur as they walk through the creative process of pulling the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, out of the comic strip and into an animated feature film.

CAVE Academy - Workshop
This year, CAVE Academy and RADiCAL will be running a joint workshop in which they’ll be going from onset to real-time render to replicate a section of the historic Barbican Centre.
During the morning, they’ll be capturing onset data, including geometry, texture, material and lighting reference. Following on from this, in the afternoon they’ll be processing the data to generate photoscans, textures and HDRIs to then rebuild part of the Barbican in glorious 3D.

Along the way, they’ll discuss the importance of observation, gathering notes, photography, using calibration props and colour charts, PBR shaders, and how to go about capturing your own data for VFX and real-time previsualisation using readily available kit.
REALTIME - Virtual Production on Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary
REALTIME was challenged to create a cutting-edge virtual production workflow using Unreal Engine for Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder, one of the three special episodes commemorating the show's 60th anniversary.
With the return of the much-loved David Tennant as the Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna, the Tardis takes the Doctor and Donna to the further edge of adventure. To escape, they must face the most desperate fight of their lives, with the fate of the universe at stake.
Lux Aeterna - 'From Science to Cinema'
'From science to cinema' - bringing scientific datasets to high end VFX.
How Lux Aeterna interpreted the latest scientific datasets and leading academic research to create cinematic sequences for Netflix's latest feature documentary hit 'Secrets of the Neanderthals'. We will explore how we used VFX for 'Our Universe' and understand how Lux Aeterna brought to life the formation of the cosmos and the birth of our moon for the groundbreaking series. To finish we will discuss how these visions can bring to life stories for both documentary and drama with our work for ‘8 Days: To the Moon and Back’ and the Netflix hit show ‘The Crown’.

Join Ruth Hutton, Senior Content and Creative Specialist, for an introduction to Katana. Foundry’s Look Development and Lighting powerhouse can process and manage huge amounts of scene data at speed, has a non-destructive, procedural nature, and supports multi-shot workflows.
Join the demo to find out how VFX and animation houses across the globe, including ILM, Pixar, Laika, and Wētā, are using Katana. Ruth will take you through the fundamentals of working with the software, and demonstrate its interoperability with Foundry’s Mari texturing tool and compositing toolset Nuke.
